But your town is named for a mysterious glimmering Pokemon that used to live in the Mysterious Forest many moons ago. However, your mother always told you not to go into the Mysterious Forest because it is very dangerous. If you want to be a true Pokémon Master, you might want to continue down town and eventually to the Pokémon Gym as you think, "I'm going to be the very best!"

[[Go to the Mysterious Forest]]!Professor Oak sends you off to the train station with a ticket to Rocky Shores, where Professor Jacaranda has her lab. You hear there's a really impressive gym leader there, too!
You and $starter are so excited when you get on the train, but there don't seem to be any open seats... Thankfully it's not a long train ride.
You wander through the cars, and you think you spot an open bench... Wait, there's a Jigglypuff on that bench...
Do you join the [[Jigglypuff]] or do you [[Stand]] far away?

Now that you have a $starter with you, you can venture into Tall Grass without worrying about being eaten by Rattata. What’s that? You see a the glorious shimmer and sparkle of a large Pokemon over a hill on the left, however, between here and there lies a dense thicket and you can hear a growling and a hissing. To the right, a sun-filled grove is filled with lush Lum Tree bushes. A ripe berry falls to the ground, exciting $starter.
Will you [[Climb the hill on the left to in search of the shimmer]] or [[gather berries]]?You and $starter feel great! Beating Gary strengthened your bond, and your resolve. You go on many more adventures, and become a duo to contend with.

You spend years training with $starter. You challenge powerful gym leaders, winning many battles, losing a few here and there. You meet new friends and training partners along the way. You and $starter gain a reputation as tough battlers with an incredible pair bond.
You fight in organized league battles, working your way up the ladder. And today, you find yourself at the Pokemon League Championships. You're going to face your longtime rival, Gary Oak, in the championships.
While you've focused on your faithful starter, $starter, Gary battles with a diverse and impressive team. You aren't sure what strategy to pursue to prepare for your match against Gary!
There's a place in town that will [[Evaluate]] your Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses, or you can have a training montage like [[Rocky Balboa]].
After pushing through the dense foliage, you and $starter are a little scratched up, but you make it to the top of the hill. A large Rattata of unusual size has a feather, also of unusual size, stuffed in its mouth. Underneath the saliva, you think the plumage might contain hints of orange and ruby. You must have the feather!
Will you [[Feed the Rattata Mom’s leftover Whipped Cream Curry.]]
Or will you [[Throw Mud at the Rattata to slow it down and steal the prize.]]
Or, will you [[Challenge it to a battle]]??You wander into the grove, marvelling at all the berries! You start picking small berries off the trees filling your container.
A small Rattata wanders out from the trees, its mouth stuffed with the single largest berry you've ever seen! You must get that berry!
Will you [[Challenge the Rattata]] to a battle, or will you
[[trade your poffin]] that your mom packed for your lunch?

</img>You open your lunch and carefully place the container on the ground. The smell wafts out and you shudder just a little. It's not exactly the most appealing leftovers, but the Rattata drops the feather and rushes over to chow down!
You carefully edge around the Rattata and grab the feather. It's real! It it's a Ho-Oh feather!
You were so distracted by the Ho-Oh feather that you didn't notice the other Rattata. There's half a dozen of them eating out of the container. And more are streaming out from the woods. They fight over the container and soon it's licked clean. All the little beady eyes turn to look at you and $starter.
Ho-Oh, more like Uh-Oh! The Rattata rush you! They swarm all over you and $starter and you tumble to the ground!
[[Death by Rattata]] You throw mud at the Rattata, and it's startled! It drops the feather and runs into the woods! You and $starter scamper over to pick up the feather!
But... it's actually a Pidgey feather.
Well, the forest has been a bust. You head back into town.

Gary Oak! He's the worst! Your day hasn't been so impressive so far, but you have a chance to make it up!
"[[Gary Oak]], I challenge you to a battle!" You challenge the Rattata to a battle for the feather! $starter jumps out, ready to rumble! "$starter!"
Do you tell $starter to [[Attack the Rattata]] or [[Defend against the Rattata]]?$starter attacks the Rattata, and its moves catch the Rattata off-guard. The Rattata squeaks in surprise and drops the feather! $starter chases the Rattata and it runs off.
You run over to the feather and pick it up. You hold it in the sun between the trees and it practically glows. You can't believe it, it's a real Ho-Oh feather!
With the feather in hand you feel the confidence to go back into town and [[Look for your rival]], but you could also continue to
[[Look for Ho-Oh]].$starter defends against the Rattata's Quick Attack. The battle heats up, and $starter has the edge!
You're strategizing your moves, when out of the corner of your eye you notice the other Rattata's creeping out of the woods. You were so focused on the battle that you didn't notice that there were hundreds of them! They swarm you and $starter. You both scream! "$starter!" You tumble to the ground, and are completely covered in Rattata!
... [[Death by Rattata]] One Rattata.
Two Rattata.
Three Rattata.
FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT YOU!!!
The eyes. The teeth. They're everywhere.
The last thing you ever hear... "$starter!!!" howls $starter.
You don't actually die, you just black out. But your days as a trainer are over!

</img>You forge ahead deeper into the woods, following the trail of the Ho-Oh. Eventually you find yourself at the foot of the mountains. You follow the trail of feathers up the side of a mountain, but you get stuck at the base of a cliff. You hesitate about where to turn to next...
But suddenly you hear a whoosh above and a giant rainbow passes by. It's the Ho-Oh! It lands up at the top of the cliff! Its nest is up there! You can just barely make out the Ho-Oh chicks!

You come back every day, and work your way up to the top of the cliff. The Ho-Oh trusts you, and sees the bond that you have formed with $starter. It sees that you have a pure heart, and lets you become its trainer. You become a Legendary Pokemon Master!
<center>THE END</center>You pull the poffin out of your bag. You lean over and shake the poffin toward the Rattata and it looks up at you expectantly. It drops the giant berry and comes toward you.
You toss the poffin to the Rattata and edge around the Rattata toward the berry.
You were so distracted by the ginormous berry that you didn't notice all the other Rattata in the forest, that are now inching toward you and your bag. They can smell your lunch... They surround you. How did you not notice that there were hundreds of them! They swarm all over you and you tumble to the ground!
... [[Death by Rattata]]!(set: $berry to "Yes") You decide the best move would be to challenge the Rattata to a battle! $starter rushes toward the Rattata!
"$starter! $starter!"
$starter must have its game face on, because the Rattata drops the berry and hightails it out of there before $starter has a chance to land a hit! Well, at least you get the berry!
As you are picking it up, you hear a snicker from behind you. It's that stuck up meanie Gary Oak! He laughs at you.

She looks at every bit of $starter from head to foot, (css: "color: #AA66AA;")["Your $starter is intriguing, unlike any I have seen. Outstanding potential... unlike any I have ever seen. In fact, all of its statistics are the very best, like none I have ever seen... except, well... Monsieur Oak, a young challenger who came by today. With what I know about yours and his Pokémon, I am not sure how you could ever beat him and $rival unless..."]
And she turns away, but you can see she puts her hand to her heart in deep thought.

You walk outside, perplexed by her prophecy and accidentally wander down a [[Dark Alley]].You decide to train hardcore, pushing yourself and $starter to the limit! The training montage shows you and $starter doing push ups, $starter dodging attacks from your training parter Misty's Staryu, you and $starter stuffing your face with Poké Beans, you and Brock sweating it out in the sauna, $starter running up and down the stairs of the local Poke-Center, and you and $starter practicing victory poses. The montage ends with you pumping your fist in the air and shouting "I want to be the very best!"
After the training montage, you and $starter are both pumped up!

The disguise fades to reveal an almost human size fox like Pokémon. When you move to pet its head, you accidentally brush the fur and realize... this is no Ninetails, it's a Zoroark! The disguise fades to reveal an almost human size fox like Pokémon. It uses Snarl.]
Zoroark's Ability, Illusion, lets it appear as another Pokémon until touched. Maybe with this edge you can [[win the Championship]]!

This does not look good. $starter won't wake up. Gary's Nidoqueen keeps pummeling $starter as $starter blissfully sleeps away. You [[lose to Gary]]!You sit down next to the Jigglypuff, and that's the last thing you remember.
The conductor is shouting down the length of the car at you, calling (css: "color: #6699ff;")["Last stop, kid! Rocky Shores!"]
You rub your eyes and stand up, and shuffle off the train. You stumble down the platform, $starter in tow, and you hear a nasty laugh from behind you.

As you turn around to confront the bully, you catch a glimpse of your reflection in one of the train station windows... And you are covered in marker drawings by Jigglypuff...
You now see that it's Gary Oak laughing at you. He is surrounded by a a half dozen extremely attractive Lads and Lasses in short skirts cheering, "Let's go Gary, Let's go! Lets go Gary, Let's go!"

Thankfully, the train ride isn't that long. The conductor calls "Rocky Shores!" sooner than you think, and you and $starter hop off onto the platform! You fist bump each other and, caught up in the excitement of your first big trip shoult, "I'm going to be the very best!"
The town is right by the seaside, with big mountain peaks right behind it. Breathtaking!
Professor Jacaranda left a note with the station attendant. She can meet you at [[The lab]] or Rocky Shores' [[Pokémon Center]].Professor Jacaranda welcomes you to her lab. It's way more impressive than Professor Oak's lab! There are bookshelves brimming with books on Pokemon, a lab bench covered with beakers and vials, a gilded Pokedex on a pedestal, a media communications center, photos and posters of prominent Pokemon researchers, Pokemon enclosures, and so much more!

</img>You walk through the glass partitions into the animal holding area. The lab Rattata are just so cute! You approach the cages and they are squeaking at each other and playing in the wood chips in the bottom of their cages.

The Pokédex draws your eye. You've never seen one that's so fancy! The professor nods her approval, and you carefully press the buttons on the cover of the Pokedex. The display on the inside lights up in glowing color. You leaf through the Pokedex's descriptions of the region's Pokemon, noticing that Professor Jacaranda has added her own observations under the standard descriptions. She has very detailed notes on Rattata!
Professor Jacaranda looks a little surprised. (css: "color: #AA66AA;")["Professor Oak didn't give you a Pokedex? Every Pokemon trainer should have one as a reference guide. I think I have a spare Pokédex over here on my bookshelf."] A red Rotom Pokédex comes to life and hovers over to you.

Professor Jacaranda takes you over to her chemistry lab bench and you both put on goggles. She shows you containers of different ingredients, including crushed berries, premixed serums, Poké Bean juices, and lab chemicals.

Professor Jacaranda looks horrified as the smell of rotten Farfetch'd eggs takes over the lab. It's so bad that you both have to head outside. $starter runs away because it smells so bad!
Professor Jacaranda is pretty upset. She calls Professor Oak, and he says to send you back home.

$starter cries "$starter $starter!!!"
The large rubbery object turns out to be an enormous bioluminescent mushroom. You realize this strange vegetation is everywhere and use it to light your way.

Eventually you come to a fork in the road. You hear rushing water down the [[left fork]]. A strange mist edges out of the [[right fork]]. It's sunset as you walk to the Rocky Shores Gym. The Gym is right on the cliffs overlooking the beach! It's a perfect place for an epic showdown.
You see a man standing by the gym. Does he have his eyes closed? You realize he's wearing the Rocky Shores Gym Badge!

You thought Brock was in Pewter City... but here he is in Rocky Shores! He seems pretty friendly, but you realize you will have to challenge him to a battle, so you put on your serious face and shout, "I'm going to be the very best!"
Brock shouts (css: "color: #6699ff;")["I believe in rock-hard defense and determination!"] and calls his Geodude!

You reach into your pocket, and pull out the Potion! It looks itching to use one of two attack moves, [[Bubble]] or [[Quick Attack]]... Which will it be?](elseif: $starter is "Charmander")[$starter leaps out, ready to battle! Will you tell $starter to use [[Ember]] or to [[Defend this round]]?](elseif: $starter is "Bulbasaur")["$starter!" $starter roars and charges out, ready to battle. It looks at you for direction, and nod your head for "Vine Whip"! Eventually, Bulbasur feels confident to try out Power Whip and, you [[Beat Brock]]!] ]You decide to join Professor Jacaranda in her lab for the next few weeks, and together you experiment with new types of potion. A potion that heals HP based on the age of your Pokemon. A potion that temporarily changes your Pokemon's type. A potion that creates a doppleganger of your Pokemon! $starter is a good sport about trying these things out.
You go on some aventures around the region, catching new Pokemon and even earning Gym Badges, but always come back to the lab to try to create new items and learn about Pokémon. Eventually, you take Professor Jacaranda up on her offer to write a letter of recommendation for UPoké, and you enroll as a freshman in the PokeScience Department!
You LOVE it! Professor Jacaranda continues to be your mentor, and when you graduate, you follow in her footsteps as a Professor!

</img>You open the door to the first Rattata cage, and one of the Rattata immediately jumps out onto your arm. It twitches its nose. It's kind of cute! You think it's going to nuzzle you, but instead it bites you!
The other Rattata from the cage is chewing open the other cages. More Rattatas are jumping out! $starter rears back in shock! Both you and $starter are covered in Rattata!
Professor Jacarada is shouting, (css: "color: #AA66AA;")["Not the lab Rattata! Noooo!"] She grabs a fire extinguisher to scare them off but they start charging toward her and she runs out of the holding area, closing a door behind her. You see her on the other side of the glass, frantically calling for help. The Rattata swarm you and $starter, quick attacking again and again!
[[Death by Rattata]] You carefully observe the Rattata, studying their movements. $starter is studying them too. It looks like $starter wants to play with the Rattata! Maybe you should let them play together!

[[Continue to observe]]?You continue to scrutinize the Rattata. Now that you look more closely, they are using the squeaks to signal each other, and they are trying to hit each other with the woodchips! They are more fiesty than you thought!

His cheering squad sticks their tongues in disgust and chants, "Let's go Gary, Let's go! Lets go Gary, Let's go!"
They all turn back to the platform and start to ignore you. You can see a ticket in Gary's hand to take the next [[Train to Stadium City]]. He must be going to train for the championships!

Or, you could explore the local seaside [[Caves]]. You stumble into town, still a little dazed, and see a giant fountain in the center of the town. After some vigorous washing, you seem to be marker free. You don't want Professor Jacaranda to get the wrong impression of you! You follow the signs to [[The lab]].Nurse Joy smiles when she spots Professor Jacaranda!

You would follow Nurse Joy anywhere! She leads you and the Professor into the back room where she has a portable operating table set up. An injured Rattata sits on the table.

You step forward and look at the poor little Rattata. You aren't sure the best way to help it. You could try to [[Heal it using the potion]] you just got, or you could apply a [[Splint]] to its broken leg.(set: $potion to "No")You remember reading that Potion is a spray-type wound medicine, so you carefully spray each and every piece of the Rattata's leg. Its fur gets a bit overlubricated from your generous application, however, slowly but surely, the Rattata's leg heals back together.
Nurse Joy's curl's bounce with approval, (css: "color: #AA66AA;")["You've gone some skills, Young One. Have you ever considered becoming a [[Nurse]]? Unlimited Potions, Ethers, Revives, and more, even a bonus Salac Berry or PP Up! If not, you could still head out to the [[Rocky Shores Gym]]?"]You start supporting the Rattata's leg with a splint made out of an Old Rod, but it keeps thrashing about. Nurse Joy does not look happy!
Nurse Joy's curls go flat as she curtly states, (css: "color: #AA66AA;")["That's not how you heal a Rattata!"]
The Rattata keeps twisting and starts squealing angrily! It's cries get louder and louder.
You start hearing more Pokemon noises all around you. The injured Rattata has been calling out to other Rattata, and they are starting to jump out of the air ducts into the room! The [[Infuriated Rattata]] surround you!Beady eyes start emerging out from behind Potion Vials. Pokéballs roll out from underneath counters and spontaneously burst open. The horrific, harmony of Rattata screams merge together as a horde of Pokémon descend upon you. You can almost feel their anger at hurting one of their brethren.
[[Death by Rattata]] Unlimited Medicine... You could do some real good in the world!
You decide to take Nurse Joy up on her offer. You and $starter start taking classes in healing and mixing different substances. After a few years, $starter evolves and starts occasionally taking the place of Chansey behind the front desk. Eventually, the big day comes.
(css: "color: #AA66AA;")["Congratulations!"] Nurse Joy wakes you up. All your old clothing have disappeared. While you were sleeping, someone, or some Pokémon (Chansey? It looks pinker than usual) has died your hair pink

</img>The rhythmic flow of the rushing water turns out to be a huge underwater lagoon. The cave ceiling is made of an azure rock that occasionally sparkles and reflects nicely in the slightly choppy waves. You are exhausted from a long day of travel, so a refreshing dip would be nice.
Just when you are about to take off your Running Shoes your Mom gave you, $starter questions, "$starter? $starter!" $starter has wandered a bit around the edge of the lagoon and finds three fishing poles.
Should you [[Surf]] or [[Fish]]?The layers of mist and fog grow thicker and thicker.
"$starter...?" $starter questions as you continue to explore. You think you remember some of the other kids having CDs on Fog or Rock Smash or Waterfalls but you never understood what they meant and did not feel like chasing after them to ask... Maybe you should have tried to have drawn a map. After a while you keep running into walls because all the passages have started to look the same.
There is one difference. You may not be able to see and but you can hear. One direction has a distince flappa-flap flapping above. The other direction has a skit skitter skiiiitttt from below. Choose your fate.
[[Flapping]] or [[Skittering]]???The lagoon looks a bit dangerous and you are definitely not as experienced in the water as your second cousin, Swimmer Girl, so fishing appears to be the better option.
$starter is intrigued by the concept of Fishing and hunts around for some bait. Regarding poles, you have three options:
An [[Old Rod]], slightly bent with a few scratches, possibly just a wooden stick with a string. The lure attached is a wide-eyed orange haired girl wearing a yellow and blue outfit.
A decent [[Good Rod]] made of wood. Very average. Very typical.
An extremely high tech [[Super Rod]] with a lot of literal bells and whistles.
<img src="rods.gif" width="700"></img>You have seen your second cousin, Swimmer Girl, relaxing and even training her Pokémon in your hometown. How hard can it be? Plus, it will be nice for you and $starter to get some excercise.

"Yahooo! I want to be the very best!" You can't help but shout. Riding along the water is pure exhiliration. "$starter - $starter $starter!" $starter can't help but join in with your cheers.

"Yahoooo-AHHHH!" With all the cheering, you almost slip and fall into the lagoon. A strong current has made Surf more difficult and you feel yourself getting pulled along at an alarming rate.

(if: $dex is "Yes")[As you are trying to successfully Surf with the strong current, you see white fins and a serpentine blue body violently splashing in your direct path.
Uh-oh... is that a Gyarados? You try to pull out your Pokédex while not falling off your Pokémon and barely manage to get to a page about Magikarp.

Panic setting in, you start singing the entry about Magikarp out loud, "Magikarp, the Fish Pokémon... 'For no reason, it jumps and splashes about, making it easy for predators like Pidgeotto to catch it mid-jump.'"
The violent splashing suddenly stops and the lagoon is eerily quiet. The walls of the cavern start to emit a soft blue glow. Bubbles start to rise and a majestic blue sea whale with red etchings rises from the depths.

Its mind touches yours. It has been impressed by your dedication to even the most simple of Pokémon, Magikarp. Kyogre takes you and $starter deep underwater to a secret cavern and begins to teach you about living in harmony with the elements. You spend much time here, occasionally venturing out to learn about more Pokémon, but always returning to your new mentor, Kyogre. After many years, you leave the secret cavern and traverse the world, adding more information to your [[treasured Pokédex]].](else:)[You give in to the current, which carries you further into the lagoon! You lose sight of the shore! There's something at the center of the lagoon, creating all the waves and wind! It's a huge blue and white Pokemon! The behemoth spots you and thrashes even harder! You can barely keep your head above water as the relentless waves push you back to shore.

When you wash up on the beach, you're half drowned and completely exhausted. $starter looks at you with pitying eyes. Surviving this experience breaks your spirit and you [[Go Home]].]Alright maaaaybe this Surfing thing is getting a little advanced. You have not even learned Dive yet. You definitely have to come back here once you learn more techniques.
As you are paddling back to shore, you see white fins and a serpentine blue body violently splashing in the current. You definitely made the correct decision.
The caves have proven to be an interesting adventure. Maybe you should [[Fish]] or check out the misty [[right fork]] not taken.(set: $potion to "Yes")
You attach your bait and toss your line.
"$starter!!!" giggles $starter. You accidentally caught the back of your shorts with your hook while doing your windup.
After carefully removing the hook and making sure your clothes are tucked in properly you try again. And again. Toss after toss and nothing. You can't tell if the smile on the face of the girl on the lure is turning to a frown or if you are just starting to get delirious from fishing for so long.
"$starter $starter?" $starter pokes you to wake you up. You caught something! You reel in your find to discover... a Potion? Well, better than nothing. Maybe it is time to head back to Rocky Shores and challenge the [[Rocky Shores Gym]] with your new-found treasure.

"$starter!" eagerly yips $starter.
Something is hooked. You reel in your catch to discover a Magikarp! Wow. First try and in less than six seconds you already caught a Pokémon. Why not try again? Another Magikarp! You must be a natural. You cannot stop. Fishing comes naturally to you. Eventually you have a pile of at least a hundred Magikarp.
But then, you see a metallic glint down the shoreline. You and $starter quietly tiptoe closer to the glint and you cast your line. This time, you fish up a SHINY Magikarp - its golden coloring unmistakable.
At this moment you decide it is your destiny to become a Magikarp Salesperson.

<center>THE END</center>You have never seen such a fancy rod in your life. You hit a couple of the buttons on the side, flip a couple of the switches, spin some of the gears, say a little prayer to Arceus, and toss your line.
"$starter!!!" yelps $starter. You accidentally caught your Pokémon while doing your windup.
After carefully removing the hook and making sure $starter is okay you try again. You definitely hook something very big and almost fall into the lagoon trying to reel in it. You are not sure if you can keep holding on.
Do you [[Let the rod go]] or [[Keep trying to reel it in]]?You can do this. You believe in yourself. You have seen all those Fisherman in town do this a thousand times. "$starter" $starter determinedly encourages you.
"I WANT TO BE THE VERY BEST!"
"$starter!"
With your combined might, you pull. Uh-oh. You reeled in a HUGE Gyarados. And he looks angry. They don't call it the Atrocious Pokémon for nothing.

Gyarados summons a Whirlpool to suck you and $starter closer, then keeps Dragon Dancing and Dragon Dancing. Eventually, it shoots a mighty Hyper Beam at you. Your Running Shoes and your Backpack are completely destroyed, not to mention your battered body. Just when you think you can't take anymore, the Gyarados breathes in for a Draco Meteor. $starter moves to protect you and take the full force of the attack, but you both pass out.
Eventually, you wake up and the Gyarados is gone, but you are worried if you can get your $starter to a Pokémon Center in time. Maybe this Adventure life is not for you. [[Go Home]] (if: $dex is "Yes")[You have stumbled upon a veritable swarm of Zubat. At least 8,192. Every other second another one swoops down upon you, trying to nip at your hair, your clothing, and your Backpack. Eventually, one knocks off your Backpack and everything pours out. The Zubat converge upon it, like wild Rattata on a Young Trainer.
$starter is caught up in the pile and barely manages to escape holding the Pokédex. At a complete loss, you page through it trying to find a solution. Professor Jacaranda has made markings about an extremely rare variant of Zubat that is green in color. In the mist, you would not have been able to tell if you were not looking for it, but there is a green Zubat leading the swarm.

You immediately command, "$starter, use (if: $starter is "Charmander")[Ember](if: $starter is "Bulbasaur")[Vine Whip](if: $starter is "Squirtle")[Bubble] on the green Zubat!"
"$starter!"
You have calmed the Zubat swarm. The green Zubat begins to take a liking to you. You and $starter to rest with its swarm for the evening. Then you begin to wonder about more variants of Pokémon. Can you find variants of all Pokémon? You decide to start on a journey across the world, to search for more Pokémon. Different colors, different forms, male, female, genderless, every Pokémon in existence - taking copious notes in your [[treasured Pokédex]].](else:)["$starter?" $starter questions.
Why did you go in this cave? Nothing good ever comes from caves. Everyone knows caves are FILLED with Zubat. And this one is no different. Every. Single. Step. Zubat. You keep running into walls. $starter doesn't know Defog. You don't have any Repel. Disaster.
You and $starter must have fought at least 8,192 Zubat. You are not sure if you can take another battle, but you hear the Battle Music playing again...
Do you [[Fight another Zubat]] or [[Run from Zubat]]?

From the cacophany of sounds, you had thought there were a hoard of Rattata, but it must have been an echo effect.
The Rattata puffs up it chest and chitters.
"$starter? $starter." responds $starter.
Rattata wants to battle. However, you are lost in the middle of an underground foggy cavern with little to no supplies.
Do you [[Challenge Rattata]] or [[Run away from Rattata]]?Your first Gym Badge! Brock turns out to be super nice and helps heal both of your Pokemon after the battle. He compliments your natural battle style, and encourages you to keep working at becoming the best that ever was. You head off to new adventures, proclaiming, "I'm going to be the very best!" and [[Your path to the Pokémon League begins]]!Brock heads over $starter, making sure it's OK. (css: "color: #6699ff;")["Kid, you better head home, this poor Pokemon needs a break. Leave it here with me and I'll take better care of it!"]

They trade blows but the Rattata is clearly outmatched. It keeps trying to use Tail Whip and hits itself in the face! $starter wins the battle handily!
Maybe you are ready for a bigger challenge. Your bond with $starter is growing. "I want to be the very best!" you shout and your voice echoes through the chamber. You hear more skittering of Rattata and the fog almost parts, but none appear. Perhaps best to get out of here and to the [[Rocky Shores Gym]] before any more Rattata show up.You know better than to Fight when undersupplied so nod politely to the Rattata and motion to $starter to leave.
This. Does. Not. Please. The. Rattata.
The Rattata utters a depraved cry and chitters in a low bass. The fog peels back further to reveal even more Rattata, some of unusual size. They do not appear pleased that you turned down their friend's challenge.

The person running the Contest Hall sees you two out front and their eyes light up.

They toss their short black hair and hurriedly leads you through several doors and a winding corridors and offers you one of three scarves. You hear the Contest Hall judge's heels tapping impatiently.

As they call you up to the stage to be crowned contest winners, the Contest Hall Judge purrs, (css: "color: #AA6666;")["You have what it takes kid. Let me trrrrrain you and $starter to take it to the next level!"]
As you stand on the stage to a standing ovation, you turn to $starter and ask, "How about it?"
"$starter! ... $starter $starter $starter!"
You go home and tell your Mom that you want to be a Beauty Contest Master, and she is so excited! She decides that she'll make your costumes! You become an incredible pageant team, with $starter as the cornerstone of your show-Pokemon. After a few years, you show $starter at the World Beauty Contest, and it evolves on stage, wowwing the crowd and winning you the title of World Pokemon Beauty Contest Master!

After a celebration with the other contestants, you head out of the Contest Hall to continue on your adventures.

When the competition starts, $starter refuses to go on stage! You try to push it onto the stage but it keeps crying out "$starter! $starter! $starter!"
Finally, $starter runs onto the stage... and keeps on running. You run after $starter, but you freeze like a Stantler in headlights when you realize you are in the middle of the stage and the whole audience is starting at you!

You slink off stage and out of the Contest Hall onto the streets of the town. You can't find $starter anywhere.
You'd better [[Go Home]]...
You go into the Pokémon Day Care. There's a weird Old Man there hanging out behind the counter.
(css: "color: #6699ff;")["Oh hallo kid! Welcome to Glimmer Day Care! That's a nice little $starter dere. Hmmm... Looks like a good breeding stock! Well, yessm, a little time here at the Day Care will help $starter become a more powerful Pokemon!"]
The Old Man explains the different options at the Day Care, (css: "color: #6699ff;")["Ye can leave $starter with one of 'em [[Ditto]] to expand yer Pokemon family, or ye can put $starter in the [[wild play area]] to try en raise its level."]

</img>You aren't sure about it, but the Old Man talks you into leaving $starter with a Ditto. The Old Man tells you to come back a few days later.
When you come back, he's really excitied!

The weird Old Man offers to let you keep all of your Pokemon at the Day Care in exchange for doing chores there every day. For the next couple months, you shovel Ditto droppings, spread Pidgey feed, and brush Vulpix. Oddly enough, you love it! Your Pokemon family is huge! You take the old guy up on his offer to become a part owner of Glimmer Day Care. You spend every day there, contemplating the options with Ditto!
The years go by, and before you know it, you are the weirdo behind the counter, offering to let the kids leave their starters with your Ditto!

You decide to put $starter in the wild play area while you go to stock up on supplies for your adventures. You worry a bit, but you leave $starter there for a few days, checking up on it every afternoon...
It turns out you didn't need to worry. The Old Man was right! $starter is having an amazing time at the day care! But you miss $starter, so after a few days (and a few levels) you take it out of the day care.
You are treating $starter to some Poke-snacks when you hear someone snickering at you.

To make matters worse, out of nowhere, a whole bunch of girls with pink poms appear to watch the match and exclaim in unison, "Let's go Gary, Let's go! Lets go Gary, Let's go!"
"That's it!" you say, "$starter and I challenge you to a battle!"
Gary calls out his $rival, and you start to worry! The type match has you and $starter on the defensive. $rival's first attack hits $starter like a brick!
"$starter!"
But wait, it didn't do as much damage as you would have thought... $starter has buffed up from its time at the day care! $starter hits back hard! The battle wages on, but ultimately you [[Beat Gary]]!

You run away to the [[Go to the Mysterious Forest]]... but do you grab an [[egg]] from the hatchery boxes as you go?You grab an egg out of the hatchery, and sprint off to the forest. Before you even get to the forest, the egg starts cracking!
You hold the egg in your hands, and pieces of the shell fall away, revealing a Rattata!
Hmm... you're not sure you need a Rattata... Do you [[Transfer the Rattata]] or [[Embrace the Rattata]]?Who needs a Rattata on their team? That's crazy...
You try to transfer the Rattata, but it jumps out of your hands and looks at you reproachfully.
You feel bad, but at least the Rattata can live in the wild... with all of those other Rattatas. Where did they all come from? You're surrounded by Rattatas and they don't look too happy! They squeak and squeak, and you feel one of them Quick Attack you on the back of the leg. Ouch! Another one Quick Attacks and knocks you over. You are swarmed by Rattata!
[[Death by Rattata]] You know, Rattatas are actually really cool! You pet your new Rattata and it snuggles up to you and $starter!
You really like that Rattata... It takes over from $starter as your lead in Pokemon on your team. Pretty soon your whole roster is Rattata! You have become...
Youngster Joey!!!

<center>THE END</center>$starter used Bubble. It's super effective! "$starter $starter!" $starter cheers eagerly. Geodude faints after two rounds! You [[Beat Brock]]!Quick Attack does a little damage. Your Pokemon seem to be evenly matched, but Geodude pulls ahead at the end and $starter faints. You [[Lose to Brock]].Ember doesn't do much, and $starter takes a beating from Geodude's Rock and Ground-type moves! You try to defend, but it's too late. "$starter..." $starter moans and faints. You [[Lose to Brock]].$starter defends, resisting Geodude's attacks! After a few a rounds, Geodude is tiring, and you see the moment to make your move. "Quick Attack!" "$starter" $starter nods approvingly. $starter's Normal-type moves aren't the most effective, but they get the job done and you [[Beat Brock]]!You let the rod go and barely see it get sucked into a whirlpool far off shore. A violent thrashing of waves accompanies several large snapping sounds and then you see a blue and white tail slamming through the waves.
"$starter!!!" says $starter, a little afraid. Maybe you made the right choice.
Dare you to fish with the [[Old Rod]] or [[Good Rod]] or finally head over to the [[Rocky Shores Gym]]?You tell $starter to use Normal-Type moves. Double Slap! Feint! Headbutt! Pound! Wrap! Anything! Gary and $rival didn't see that coming.
After a few rounds, $starter and $rival are both running out of energy. It's close, but a final Tackle pushes $rival over the edge! That's it! You and $starter win!
Gary isn't a gracious loser. (css: "color: #6699ff;")["This is the only time you'll ever beat me, you weirdo!"]

You laugh off his sad insult! This is just the start of you and $starter's adventures together, and you are pretty sure you will succesfully beat Gary again.

You start to tear up, but more than anything you are worried about $starter. You run to Professor Oak's office, carrying $starter.

Then you see a light at the end of the alley. A spark. Can it be? Is that a Pikachu? It seems to have sensed your sadness and slowly approaches you.
"Pika Pi? Pikaaaa!" Pikachu shocks you then runs around a corner. Maybe this can be the start to a new Adventure.

When you reach the stadium, you head into challengers locker room and wait for your name to be called. You and $starter can barely contain your excitement.

"$starter!!!"
When your name is called, you and $starter burst out onto the arena floor.
Gary Oak is already there, and he has that weird cheering section, shouting, "Let's go Gary, Let's go! Lets go Gary, Let's go!" He calls his Pokemon, and it's NOT $rival! It's Gary's Nidoqueen! She's an intimidating, huge Pokemon and she looks angry!

The Pokémon trade a few blows before...

After the dusk clears. Only one Pokémon remains, your borrowed Zoroark! You did it! You have Become the Champion... but at what cost?
Your $starter cries a single tear. And a mysterious shadowed figure from the edge of the Stadium beckons you to join them...
